Anne Babson

Poet - Librettist - Blogger - Educator

Welcome home, said the carpetbagger to the native.

Welcome to a website that upends the columns on the old plantation and offers the new South a new story of itself, one that honors the humble and the formerly excluded.

Anne Babson is an internationally published and award-winning writer based in New Orleans who has come from the North to understand the South.  Straddling both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line, she writes on American themes of a variety of kinds, both verse and prose, for the page and for music.

She has a new book out -- did y'all hear? It's called Polite Occasions, and in it, ladies who sit in parlors like this one meet the End Times with equanimity and resist fascists despite all that Emily Post says.

So don't be shy.  Pull up a rocking chair.  The evening is just starting to get cool.  Join us on the veranda for some fresh air in all this heat.  As we relax, somebody is just bound to start spilling secrets.
